We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices)* by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.
They claim over half a million signatures already. I couldn't find a way to look at the collected "signatures". These things are mostly meaningless without a way to verify the signatures, but it's for a good cause. Symbolism is important in politics. The environmental extremists won with emotional appeals disguised as science and delivered as a new religion. Now, maybe the anger at high gas prices will swing the pendulum back the other way a bit in favor of exploration and exploitation of our own resources.
