Elizabeth Warren’s embattled campaign: Cherokee tie found 5 generations ago

> Meanwhile, Warren’s camp issued statements from five faculty members at the four universities where she’s taught, including Harvard Law School and University of Pennsylvania, to knock down any suggestion she used her Native American background to get hired.
>> “To suggest that she needed some special advantage to be hired here or anywhere is just silly. She was hired for her great abilities as a teacher and a scholar. Her family tree had nothing to do with it,” wrote Jay Westbrook, chairman of the business law school at the University of Texas at Austin, who hired Warren.

What a second... Is someone suggesting that an affirmative action hire is somehow less qualified than someone from a privileged background? That maybe the color of one's skin would be a special advantage beyond one's abilities as a teacher and a scholar? That's an outrageous claim, and I demand to see the evidence.

Elizabeth Warren made sure that her employers knew she was 1/32 Cherokee so that they would have an opportunity to show that they had no bias against people of 1/32 color. She in no way, intended to take away an opportunity from someone of 1/16 or more color. Hiring is not just about numbers! Unless of course you're a mathematics professor, which Warren is not, so there's no story here. Move along.
