He sounded smooth and polished and strong and convincing — and what he was selling was snake oil. …When he talked about what would be in his bill and how he would not end up with a dime of deficit, he said it will cost almost $1 trillion dollars and the majority of it, more than half, will come from — what? From removing waste, fraud, and abuse from Medicare. Now, that's an insult to the intelligence of the American people. That phrase was a joke when it was used by Richard Nixon in 1971!And if there is all this waste and abuse in the system waiting to be squeezed out, why hasn't he started already? Where is it? Why do you have to have a bill?
I believe that the Secretary of Waste, Fraud and Abuse (WFA) is on record as supporting the convening a blue-ribbon panel of experts to write a preliminary draft of a report on how to economize expenditures while at the same time guaranteeing that the government is able to create or save millions of high-paying union jobs. First, we need to gather all the players and make sure that everyone has a place at the table. A fact-finding mission to the highly efficient Caribbean islands would be a good place for a Congressional delegation to meet as they oversee the process of expanding the financial resources of the WFA department so that they can better utilize the taxpayers of this fine country.
